Disney promises the resort continues the Disney Vacation Club tradition of blending "magic with elegant design and premier accommodations."

On Tuesday, August 4, Bay Lake Tower finally opens its doors to guests. 15 stories high with 295 two-bedroom equivalent villas, the tower is the most significant addition to the Seven Seas Lagoon / Bay Lake area resort selection since Wilderness Lodge opened in 1994 (the flagship Grand Floridian Resort and Spa opened in 1988).

The crescent-shaped Bay Lake Tower stands next to the A-framed Disney's Contemporary Resort, which opened with Walt Disney World on October 1, 1971. Bay Lake Tower appears "over the shoulder" of the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland area, and was designed both inside and out with a similar (though not as overtly whimsical) retro-futuristic sensibility. While different in shape, Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary Resort are clearly architectural and thematic cousins, easily distinguishable from the old world and exotic charms of the other area resorts, the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian, and Wilderness Lodge.

Bay Lake Tower is the third Disney Vacation Club property to open at Walt Disney World this year, and is just the seventh to open since Disney began selling timeshares at the resort in 1991. Construction on Bay Lake Tower began on the Contemporary Resort's demolished North Wing site in 2007. Disney did not confirm the construction was for a DVC property until mid-2008.

The tower features a pedestrian Sky Way Bridge from the fifth floor to the fourth floor Grand Canyon Concourse of Disney's Contemporary Resort. High atop the tower is the Top of the World lounge, with two outside viewing areas for the Magic Kingdom and Bay Lake.

Though Bay Lake Tower is a Disney Vacation Club resort available to members, overnight stays for non-members can be reserved as available.
