The facility is functioning now, but will open formally this fall. ESPN is installing a graphics lab -- branded the Innovations Lab -- at WDW's 220-acre Wide World of Sports. Opening this fall, the lab will create graphics for broadcast and experiment with cutting edge technology for covering games. The great weather in Florida allows athletes to practice and play their year-round, so the location is perfect for ESPN's venture. This doesn't sound like a typical tourist attraction, but the research facility will likely include big picture windows to let visitors peek in at the staff at work (not unlike the now-defunct production facilities at Disney's Hollywood Studios). |
