Disney finally put an end to rumors today as it confirmed that a large animatronic Luxo, Jr. will soon be appearing at the “Lighting†building in Pixar Place. Construction walls were recently put up in the area across from Toy Story Mania. Few details have emerged, though Roger Gould, creative director for theme parks at Pixar, revealed that the character will "perform" several times a day. The character Luxo, Jr., which does not speak but makes simple squeaks and chirps, appeared in the short film of the same name in 1986, and launched Pixar down the path to success which the company enjoys today. The film was nominated for an Academy Award that year. Later, Luxo became the company's official mascot. He can now be seen hopping into place as the letter "i" in the opening and closing logos of all Pixar films. |
