HELPFUL HINT: On road trips, Redbox is your friend, but... E-mail

dvds

$1.00 DVD rentals are a great way to save some money, but make sure you know where to return them!

Sammi H. sends in this helpful hint:

With the economy the way it is, you may be trying to save money by driving to WDW instead of flying this year. That's a smart idea, but if you've got kids, don't underestimate the boredom factor! A 10-hour-plus drive can be maddening to a child, no matter how interesting the scenery outside the window is, or how funny Mom and Dad's quips are.

Like many families with kids, we now have a minivan with a DVD player, and we think there's no better way to keep the kids from thinking "are we there yet?" than to pop in a movie they haven't seen. Of course, the whole point of the driving is to save some money, so why spend $20 on a movie when you can just go to a Redbox and rent a new release for $1? Borrowing movies at the library might be an option, but most libraries don't loan DVDs out for more than 3 - 6 days.

The beauty of Redbox is that you don't have to return the DVD you rent to the same location. So, you can pick up a DVD at a machine in New Jersey and drop it off somewhere further along on your trip the same day, or the next day.

One caveat: Throughout the US, Redbox machines are most commonly found at McDonald's restaurants, but in Orlando, you won't find ANY at the golden arches. The most convenient Redboxes near Walt Disney World are as follows:

Wal-Mart
3250 Vineland Rd
Kissimmee, FL

Wal-Mart
8990 Turkey Lake Rd
Orlando, FL

We highly recommend you scope out potential drop-off locations before your trip! Go to Redbox.com.
