Cronkite was the narrator of the EPCOT Center attraction from 1986 to 1994.

Having been born near the end of Cronkite's career as a news journalist, I'm perhaps a generation removed from the man whose death the news outlets are reporting on today. My familiarity with Cronkite comes mostly in the form of news retrospectives of the 60s and 70s, during which time it seems that Cronkite was a trusted source for news on every major world event: JFK's assassination, Apollo 11 and 13, and Vietnam, to name just a few. I think that Cronkite became an archetype for news anchors in both real-life and fiction alike.

For Generation X Walt Disney World fans like myself, Walter Cronkite is perhaps best remembered as the voice of EPCOT Center's Spaceship Earth.* From 1986 to 1994, Cronkite's narration took guests on their journey through the history of communication. Cronkite had retired from news in 1981.

(*Trivia: Cronkite was the second voice of the attraction. Vic Perrin provided the voice from 1982 - 1986. Jeremy Irons followed in 1994, and Dame Judy Dench in 2008.)

Spaceship Earth was perhaps a minor footnote in a long and storied career, but his contribution was certainly indelible for the millions who experienced the attraction in the late 80s and early 90s.
